June 21 - Clive

Tuesday, June 21, 2011

The second walk today was a 5K from the Living History Farms to the city of Clive.

The Clive walk was planned as a loop through the town and then along a greenbelt trail.  However, the greenbelt trail was flooded, so the walk was changed to an out-and-back.  The walk route started (and ended) by crossing a busy highway.  Frankly, it didn’t look that interesting, especially as an out-and-back.

Did I mention that I now have blisters on both pinkie toes?  By the time we finished the Living History Farms walk, my knees and ankles were swollen and starting to hurt.  We have walked at least 84 kilometers in the past 10 days – all in hot or hotter weather.

I decided to literally “sit this one out.”  We did drive the route, just to see what was there.  It was a pleasant enough route (after crossing the highway), but it really didn’t have anything of interest.  After passing a large car dealership, the route passed a very large hospital campus.  Then it went into a residential neighborhood.  That was it.  I didn’t feel bad about skipping it.
